Advisor Spotlight: Jasmine Rush

December 7, 2012

JasmineAt Golden Key, we value our Advisors and all they do to ensure our chapters succeed. These hardworking university faculty, staff and administrators volunteer their time to help Golden Key develop and maintain high standards of education.  In order to show our appreciation, we’ve decided to spotlight some of these great people. In December, we are spotlighting Jasmine Rush from the University of California, Los Angeles.

  1. What is your role at UCLA?
Assistant Dean of Students and Advisor of Golden Key’s UCLA chapter.
  2. How long have you been a Golden Key Advisor?
    2.5 years
  3. How do you make an impact as a Golden Key advisor? Tell us a little about your chapter.
I hope I have made an impact by always being there for members as more than just an advisor, but as someone who genuinely cares about their entire UCLA experience. Our chapter has been at UCLA for 29 years, and is an active and vibrant part of the UCLA and Los Angeles communities. As Golden Key Bruins, we believe that true success involves fusing the Golden Key mission with UCLA’s True Bruin values of Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Service, and Excellence. It this through this path that the total UCLA experience is realized.
  4. What do you enjoy most about being a GK Advisor?
Through my interactions with members, I’m able to learn new things about campus, the world, life, etc. that are applicable to my role as an Assistant Dean. You would be amazed at how being familiar with a new song or a movie, or a specific cultural tradition, can really make someone’s day. I owe this to the members and officers.
  5. What is your favorite GK-related experience or memory?
My first New Member Recognition Event (NMRE). The officers invited our Chancellor to speak. Many of the students and guests were very excited and kept thanking me afterwards. It was refreshing to tell them that the officers made it happen!
  6. How do you think Golden Key members Stand Out, Stand Up and Stand Together?
Simply by modeling and truly living by our three pillars. They stand out through their exceptional academic performance, they stand up by agreeing to serve as leaders in our global community, and they stand together through everyday service to all.
  7. What are some of your hobbies?
I enjoy reading and working out. It’s always great when I can combine the two.
  8. Where are you from?
I’m from upstate New York, and I grew up there.
  9. What is your favorite candy bar?
Any candy bar that has a dark chocolate version. I love dark chocolate.
  10. Android or Apple? Apple
  11. Favorite animal? I like fictitious, mythological, magical ones that appear in books.
